Welcome to the Kaplan Family Learning Center
The Kaplan Family Learning Center is the after-school and Shabbat Jewish education program for children ages 3 to 18 of the United Synagogue of Hoboken.
We strive to give our students the foundations of Jewish education in a nurturing, informal and loving environment.
Visit our Learning Center and you’ll see our students ...
- Running eagerly to get to their Learning Center classes.
- Participating thoughtfully and excitedly in class discussions.
- Tasting the holiday food they’ve created as they learn from a professional Jewish cooking master.
- Growing in commitment to values like tzedakah (charity), gemilut hasadim (acts of loving-kindness) and tikkun olam (healing and repairing the world), through study, conversation, and volunteer projects.
- Feeling completely “at home” in a synagogue setting; leading services and reading Torah and Haftarah at their Bnai/Bnot Mitzvah and beyond.
- Understanding, speaking, reading and writing Hebrew.
- Forging bonds of friendship and mentorship with our knowledgeable and skilled teaching staff.
- Developing a pride and an excitement about being Jewish.
Some of us (probably not most of us!) may have been privileged to have a Hebrew School experience that was this rich, varied, vibrant and exciting. For all of us, it is a gift we can give to our children.
The family education component of the Learning Center helps parents to learn about Jewish tradition alongside their children. Through their study of Jewish texts, our students learn to embrace a strong, positive and meaningful Jewish identity, and to incorporate the richness of Jewish heritage into daily life.
Additional exciting learning opportunities include field trips to important Jewish sites and museums in the New York area, workshops with professional artists to make beautiful Judaica objects, Shabbat and holiday celebrations, and tzedakah volunteer opportunities.
